Abstract

Modern society has a high degree of complexity in its functioning. Social relationships gained dimension and variety never seen before. The actions of Homo sapiens have enormously impacted nature, affecting its balance. Climate change is one of the most obvious symptoms. At risk is the position not only of the human species but of the entire planet. The current scene: how societies develop under risk and flourish at the expense of generating more risk. The Absent of Precedent plays against commensurable rules. The more details are isolated, the greater the difficulty. The precautionary principle breaks into this picture. An action limiter is intended even when there is a lack of certainty about a specific action. Its application is not, however, problematic. The social dynamics of complex societies make everything more complicated. This article relates precaution, climate change and risks in the panel of modern society - a “risk societyâ€, in the way that Ulrich Beck thinks it. It points to the need for relevant changes in the way of thinking if precaution is to be an effective mediator of action.
