The Privacy in the Network Society

Abstract

The right to privacy has numerous aspects to be analyzed. This article seeks to reflect on the right to privacy, intimacy and secrecy in the network society, questioning whether extimacy would be an unfolding of personality rights, specifically analyzing it as one of the nuances of the right to privacy. The act of exposing oneself on social networks is commonplace in contemporary society, which presents the need to bring adequate means to analyze the abuse and misuse of information published online. Self-exposure on social networks is now called “extimacy”, which would be the opposite of “intimacy”. Extimacy should be understood as one of the nuances of the right to privacy, as a means of protecting the person who voluntarily exposes himself on social networks against the abusive use of his information. The hypothetical-deductive method was used in this research, through the technique of bibliographic and documental research.
