From framing or frame as a mediator of a social fact reproduced in the professional television journalism field

Abstract

This research looks at the social demonstrations surrounding the 2016 impeachment as a media event with major repercussions, constituting an example of a relevant social fact for society. Based on an analysis of television resources, the aim is to understand whether television news activities have constructed their own framing of the news. We chose the television program Jornal Nacional, from Rede Globo de Televisão, as representative of the journalistic field, due to its national coverage and large audience, analyzing it through the Globoplay streaming platform. To do this, we used an inductive approach, combining analysis of a news story and bibliographical research on academic bases. Methodologically, it also uses multimodality, which interprets various elements of language such as discourse, signs and the descriptive capture of an everyday fact, and Fairclough's (2001) Critical Discourse Analysis. This is done in order to answer the following question: by combining television and journalistic resources, did Jornal Nacional formulate its own narrative of social fact, highlighting one reality among many? Finally, using the framing of the news, Jornal Nacional presented its narrative of the social demonstrations as if it were a reflection of society, usurping reality and appropriating it.
