The purpose of this article is to analyze the use of the interview in Brazilian legal research, wich also reflects on science, techniques, academic works (dissertations and theses) and Postgraduate Law Programs (PPGDs) in which they are produced. We seek to verify whether it has been shown to be useful for thinking and transforming Law. We conducted qualitative, exploratory research, with the collection of information at the Bank of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES). We started from 308 academic papers available between 2013 and 2019 and deepened the analysis of 48, made available in 2019. We identified the type of interview, the number of respondents and questions and the type of educational institution in which the work was carried out. We can affirm that the most applied type of interview is semi-structured, used in works pertinent to different branches of legal knowledge (including dogmatics) and with representation in states from the north to the south of the country. We conclude, then, that the interview fits the critical perspective, bringing Law closer to the reality of life and that, even though it is only a technique, not transforming the field of Law, it helps to unveil reality and perfect the science of Law.
